Wizz Air’s aeroplanes come equipped with brand-new high-tech ultralight seats – PHOTOS

Wizz Air, the Hungarian ultra-low-cost airline, has just launched their first Airbus A321neo aeroplane with a deck of brand-new high-tech seats from the German Recaro company.

Back in 2018, during the Aircraft Interiors Expo, the Hungarian airline Wizz Air has announced their new seats. In 2019, the Italian Geven company would supply the airline with seats for their 110 new Airbus A321neo aeroplanes.

At that time, Wizz Air purchased the Essenza model, which cost the company around € 44 million, says Airportal.

The Italian seats provide more leg space, and they are also beneficial for the environment on a larger scale. Since these seats are lighter than the previous seating Wizz Air has used, the company could mitigate fuel consumption. Moreover, they can lower greenhouse gas emissions while also being more economical due to saving money on fuel.

Current upgrade

But Wizz Air has recently made a further improvement considering their seating option. The airline has struck a deal with another seating company. However, this time, it is a German company called Recaro.

Recaro claims that “as the global market leader in economy class seats, we offer a broad product portfolio for the highest level of comfort above the clouds”.

According to Airportal, Wizz Air has ordered a total number of 31,767 Recaro SL3710 model seats to install on their aeroplanes.

Starting this year, Wizz Air’s 146 Airbus A321neo aeroplanes will come equipped with brand-new high-tech Recaro seats through 2027.

The Recaro seats are stunningly light as they only weigh 9 kilograms.

“The lightweight and durable SL3710 is the ideal solution for short-haul flights and met the needs of Wizz Air, as the low-cost carrier is committed to achieving high fuel efficiency”, – Recaro said on their website about the deal.

The high-tech seat is a “natural fit on Wizz Air’s new Airbus A321neo since the main goal is to conserve weight and extend the life cycle of the seat without sacrificing comfort,” said Mark Hiller, CEO and Shareholder at Recaro Aircraft Seating.

Wizz Air’s first Airbus with a deck of the new ultra-light Recaro seats has recently entered fleet service, and as Recaro manufactures and installs their seats, it will be more common on the vehicles of the Hungarian airline, Wizz Air.
